What We Do

We create hope for coral reefs by using several restoration techniques which either make coral reefs more resistant to global warming or give a new life to broken pieces of coral. Our restoration team maps damaged areas to be restored, collects super coral fragments and places them onto coral nurseries until they're mature enough to be transplanted back onto the reef. We apply rigorous monitoring protocols to maximize the survival rate of the corals we transplant.

Our Vision

If we want to save the world’s coral reefs, we need to think bigger. We are constantly improving our methods and collaborating with experts, scientists, and engineers to create a scalable model that will allow us to set up Coral Gardeners branches around the world.

Super Corals

We define Super Corals as corals that have survived a bleaching event in the wild and should hypothetically spawn.

Our restoration team is growing Super Corals' species in order to build stronger reefs, while ensuring the genetic diversity of the reef.

Our Methods

We map and analyze damaged areas, then we collect either loose coral fragments or trim up to 10% of a Super Coral donor found in the wild.

We insert the fragments into a rope or on a coral tree, or we cement them onto cookies that are placed on a nursery table.

After 12 to 18 months, we take sampled pieces of mature corals and plant them back onto the degraded reef.

We monitor the growth, size, health and fitness of the corals in the nurseries and in the transplanted areas.

We document the degraded areas before and after the transplantation to measure the survival rate and other key success indicators like the fish density over time.

We compare the degraded areas of the reef next to the restored ones to measure our impact over time and adapt our restoration strategy.

What We Do

We are working with machine learning engineers to develop the most advanced artificial intelligence for the reef. Combined to tools such as smart sensors, we will be able to collect data and observe the coral nurseries in real-time, and to share it with you!
